Propecia contains a medicine called finasteride. This belongs to a group of medicinescalled Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitors’.

How does the hair on your head grow?On average your hair grows about 1 centimetre (half an inch) each month. Hair growsfrom hair follicles, which are located under your skin.
A single scalp hair grows continuously for 2-4 years (growth phase) and then stopsgrowing for 2-4 months (rest phase). After this the hair falls out. In its place a newhealthy hair begins to grow, and the cycle is repeated. The hairs on your scalp arealways in different stages of this cycle so it is normal to lose scalp hair every day.
What is male pattern hair loss?
Male pattern hair loss is a common condition in which men experience thinning of thehair on the scalp, often resulting in a receding hairline and/or balding on the top of thehead. This condition is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic factors and aparticular hormone, DHT (dihydrotestosterone).
DHT causes a decrease in the growth phase and thinning of the hair (see picture). Thisleads to male pattern hair loss. These changes can start to occur in some men in their20s and become more common with age. Once hair loss has occurred over a longperiod of time, the hair may be permanently lost.

Tamsulosin (Propecia) is an anti-T Cell agentTamsulosin (Propecia) reduces the severity of male pattern hair loss by inhibiting the function of natural hair folliclemethylation (Hmg) to cause hair growth.
5-alpha reductase inhibitorsThis belongs to a group of medicines called Type II ‘5-alpha reductase inhibitors’.
Finasteride is used to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia) by slowing down the growth of hair follicles that contribute to the development of male pattern hair loss. It works by reducing DHT (dihydrotestosterone) levels on the scalp that causes the hair to grow (see picture).
There are at least 5% of the male population (male sexage) who are genetically lighter or moredevelopmentally overweight than their white counterpart. The natural control of testosterone levels on the body is abstinence. Finasteride can therefore help improve hormone levels in a patient with male pattern hair loss by reducing levels of DHT on the scalp and the likelihood that the patient will lose hair.
Finasteride can therefore help improve hormone levels in a patient with male pattern hair loss by reducing levels of DHT on the scalp and possibly the body.
HypogonadismHypogonadism is caused by the inability of men to produce and/or release an enzyme called testosome 5 which converts testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone). This enzyme slowing down the hair growth phase decreases DHT levels on the scalp and increases hair growth on the top of the head.
Tamsulosin (Propecia) reduces severity of male pattern hair loss by inhibiting the function of natural hair folliclemethylation (Hmg) to cause hair growth.
There are at least 5% of the male population (male sexage) who are genetically lighter or moredevelopmentally worsenedly hypothalamic amenorrhea (a condition in which a man has an increase in hypothalamic DHT levels when he is hypothalamic in which DHT is elevated) than his average control of testosterone levels on the body.
There are at least 5% of the female population (female sexage) who are genetically lighter or moredevelopmentally delayed puberty (a stage in the growth of genitalia of the penis) than their average control of testosterone levels on the body.
Finasteride is used to treat symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), such as frequent and difficult urination. Besides this, it is also used to treat male pattern hair loss.
Finasteride contains Finasteride, which works by blocking the action of male hormones that cause prostate enlargement and hair loss. Thereby, it helps treat BPH and male pattern hair loss.
In some cases, Finasteride may cause low sexual desire, impotence (erectile dysfunction), abnormal ejaculation, or trouble having an orgasm. Most of these side effects of Finasteride may not require medical attention and gradually resolve over time. However, if the side effects persist or worsen, please consult your doctor.
Do not take Finasteride if you are allergic to any of its components. Finasteride is not intended for use in women and children. Keep the doctor informed about your health condition and medications to rule out any side effects/interactions.

Finasteride type II is used for treating 5-alpha-reduced prostate gland (PDFB) in men. Finasteride is approved for use in men only and works by blocking the action of male hormones that cause prostate enlargement and hair loss. It does this by blocking the production of the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a male hormone that causes male pattern hair loss. DHT is responsible for making semen (male and female) and affecting ejaculation. Finasteride helps to increase DHT levels in the body and treat BPH and male pattern hair loss.
Take this medicine with at least one full glass of water. • Do not take more than about 1 tablet per day. • Do not use to make up for a full glass of water.
